30+ TV Premieres We’re Looking Forward to in the Next Season

Many great TV shows are based on movies, and before that, on books. Our first entry is just that. Interview With the Vampire was a ’90s horror movie featuring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. The Oscar-nominated gothic flick was based on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel.

AMC bought the rights to Rice’s books in 2020, and the TV series hit the small screens in October 2022. This vampire drama is set in the 1900s and stars British Game of Thrones actor Jacob Anderson.

Likewise, Netflix’s highly anticipated new show Wednesday has a long lineage. The Addams Family started off in a series of newspaper comic strips back in the ’30s. Then, they featured in a 1960s TV series and two live-action movies in ’90s. Now, they’re back for a 2022 audience.

Wednesday is a coming-of-age supernatural mystery focusing on the gothic teen’s high school drama. The casting for this reboot is incredible, including Catherine Zeta-Jones as the glamorous Morticia and Luis Guzmán as the suave Gomez.

For those that love a police procedural, new cop show East New York might be for you. The CBS series follows Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood, played by Amanda Warren. As you might imagine, newly promoted Inspector Haywood has a radical new vision for her new colleagues.

As with most police procedurals, this show centers on the workplace dynamics between officers and detectives in a New York precinct. The East New York cast is bursting with familiar faces — including Richard Kind, Kevin Rankin, and Elizabeth Rodriguez.

Comedy series Mythic Quest is heading into its third season, but it still remains underrated. The show was created by Always Sunny in Philadelphia stars Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney, along with seasoned comedy writer Megan Ganz.

The Apple TV+ series is set at a fictional video game studio that makes a popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (or MMORPG for those in the know). Mythic Quest has a strong core cast (including Danny Pudi from Community), as well as high-profile guest stars.

Netflix period drama The Crown has taken the world by storm. And trust us, season five will be huge. The fifth season of the historical drama will be the penultimate, and focuses on the British royals in the 21st century.

Yes, that means audiences will be seeing the Camilla drama unfold, as well as the tragic passing of Princess Diana. In season five, Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth, with Dominic West as (now the real-life King) Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana.

There have been several popular Westerns on the small screen recently. Upcoming miniseries The English is a new addition to the trend. In the series, Emily Blunt plays Englishwoman Lady Cornelia Locke as the arrives in the West in 1890 looking for revenge.

She teams up with Pawnee ex-cavalry scout Eli Whipp, played by Chaske Spencer, to cross the violent landscape. This Amazon Prime series is an international production, and features an impressive cast. The main actors are joined by Irish actors Stephen Rea and Ciaran Hinds.

We’re all used to crime anthologies (see American Crime Story) but Accused is a different kind of crime series. This Fox show follows court cases but the audience doesn’t know the crime or why the defendant is on trial.

The series premieres at the beginning of 2023, and has big names attached — including Rachel Bilson, Margo Martindale, and Abigail Breslin. Accused is based on the Emmy award-winning British series of the same name. The 2010 version features Christopher Eccleston, Sean Bean, and Andy Serkis.

It’s time for another returning show with Netflix’s Emily in Paris. This American-French rom-com series premiered back in 2018, and its third season will be released in December 2022. The show follows Lily Collins as American Emily Cooper, a marketing executive trying to make it in France.

Cue culture clashes between the Midwestern lead character and her new French colleagues. Emily in Paris is filmed in the French capital, though it has attracted some criticism from French critics for its stereotypical take on the country.

Most people are aware of Chippendales, the touring male dance troupe seen by almost two million people per year. But, are people aware of how the bow-tied gentlemen came to be? Welcome to Chippendales is a new true-crime drama that tells the story of Indian immigrant Somen “Steve” Banerjee as he builds his empire.

Kumail Nanjiani plays the Chippendales founder — alongside Annaleigh Ashford, Juliette Lewis, and Murray Bartlett. This tantalizing tale premieres at the end of November on Hulu. It’s sure to be a wild ride.

Writer and director Ryan Murphy has given us hours of excellent TV throughout his career. From Glee to American Horror Story to Pose, Murphy has shared multiple vivid stories with audiences worldwide. In 2022, he’s teamed up with writer and director Ian Brennan for the miniseries The Watcher.

Based on a true story, this series follows a married couple dealing with a stalker known as “The Watcher.” The leads are played by Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale, with a supporting cast including Margo Martindale, Mia Farrow, and Richard Kind.

The music industry is an ideal setting for a soapy drama. Just ask Empire or Nashville. New Fox musical drama Monarch follows a country music family headed by Dottie and Albie Roman, played by Susan Sarandon and Trace Adkins.

The rest of the family includes daughters Nicky and Gigi, played by Anna Friel and Beth Ditto — and sons Luke and Ace, played by Joshua Sasse and Iñigo Pascual. Monarch is packed with family drama, unearthed secrets, and musical numbers (of course). Hooray!

Animated series have been enjoying a resurgence, perhaps largely thanks to sci-fi sitcom Rick and Morty. Well, the hit show’s creator Dan Harmon has a new offering – Krapopolis. This time, Harmon takes us to a mythical version of ancient Greece full of humans, gods, and monsters.

The Fox show premieres at the end of November 2022, and has already been renewed for a second season. The voice cast for Harmon’s new outing includes British stars Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, and Hannah Waddingham.

Mike White’s The White Lotus has already enjoyed critical acclaim and high ratings. Its second season changes cast and location, but stays with the fictional White Lotus hotel chain. Whereas season one was based in Hawaii, season two takes audiences to Sicily — but chaos stays right around the corner.

Thankfully, Jennifer Coolidge will reprise her Emmy award-winning role in the HBO comedy-drama anthology, alongside a raft of new faces. Tune in for Aubrey Plaza, Tom Hollander, and F. Murray Abraham, among others.

There’s nothing like a rugged location for a TV drama. And where better for rugged locations than Alaska? As you might have guessed, Alaska Daily takes place at an Alaskan newspaper. A-lister Hilary Swank plays Eileen Fitzgerald, a New York reporter that looks for a clean start in a more remote location.

This show was based on a series of 2019 news articles and is a classic journalism piece. This comes as no surprise as the show’s creator Tom McCarthy won an Oscar for writing 2015’s Spotlight.

Part period drama, part mystery, part horror, 1899 follows a group of European migrants on a steamship headed for New York. While the passengers are looking forward to their new lives, the journey turns into a nightmare.

The upcoming Netflix series was created by German writers Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, who already had success on the platform with sci-fi thriller series Dark. English actress Emily Beecham appears in the lead role, and each character speaks in the actors’ native languages.

Comedy drama Ramy premiered on Hulu in 2019, and returns for its third season in 2022. The series follows a first-generation American Muslim as he straddles his Egyptian community and his New Jersey neighborhood.

The series has been praised for its depiction of American Muslims, and lead actor and co-creator Ramy Youssef has scooped the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his work on the show. In season three, model Bella Hadid — whose father is Palestinian — will make her acting debut in a recurring guest role.

In 1988, English actor Warwick Davis starred as aspiring sorcerer Willow Ufgood in fantasy adventure movie Willow. In 2022, Davis reprises the character for the Disney+ TV fantasy sequel. He’s joined by a group of unlikely heroes who travel far beyond their homes on a dangerous quest.

Characters from the 1988 movie will also reappear — alongside new characters played by Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, and Ellie Kellyman, among others. Princesses, knights-in-training, thieves, and kitchen maids come together in this adventure series that premieres in November 2022.

Similarly, sci-fi NBC series Quantum Leap is making a comeback in 2022. The original show aired for five seasons and followed Scott Bakula time-jumping as physicist Dr. Sam Beckett. The revival show takes place 30 years later and stars Raymond Lee as new lead character, Dr. Ben Song.

The Quantum Leap accelerator has been upgraded, so will the new team solve old mysteries? Multiverses have been a pretty big deal for the past few years, so this is a great time for Quantum Leap to re-emerge.

It’s been two years since audiences have seen Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini as Jen and Judy. Thankfully, the third and final season of Dead to Me is coming to Netflix in November 2022. We first met these women in 2019 at grief support group.

Since then, the two lead characters have delved into several mysteries and navigated their unusual friendship. This black comedy has been a hit with critics and audiences. Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini have incredible chemistry. And we’re pretty pleased with James Marsden, too.

’90s TV favorite George Lopez is back! The Mexican-American actor was the star of The George Lopez Show on ABC for six seasons, playing a fictionalized version of himself.

In 2022, he’s back in another 30-minute sitcom, this time starring his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez. The revival airs on NBC, and catches up with George when he’s not doing so well. The new cast features a diverse mix of actors — including Selenis Leyva, Laci Mosley, Al Madrigal, and Brice Gonzalez.

Fans of rom-com series Jane the Virgin will be pleased to know that lead actress Gina Rodriguez is back in another leading TV role. ABC’s Not Dead Yet follows Nell Stevens, who lands a job writing obituaries. However, this is no regular obituary writing job.

Helpfully, the ghosts of the people she writes about will be there to lend a hand. Not Dead Yet is based on a 2020 book and will appear on our screens at the beginning of 2023.

We have to say, we’re thrilled at the idea of a new comedy set at a Blockbuster store. Amusingly, the new Netflix show is set at the last-ever Blockbuster video store as the employees try to figure out what it takes for a small business to succeed.

Randall Park plays the store’s manager, and Melissa Fumero portrays an employee who’s struggling with her bills. Series creator Vanessa Ramos has already worked on hit workplace comedies Superstore and Brooklyn 99.

Historical romance series Bridgerton took Netflix by storm when it first premiered in 2020. Shondaland’s first scripted show is set in Regency-era London and follows the titular Bridgerton family during the social season.

The third installment of the record-setting show will stream on Netflix in 2023. This time around, Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey reprise their roles as Viscountess and Viscount of Bridgerton. They’re joined by some new cast members, including English actor Hannah New as Lady Tilley Arnold.

We’ve already mentioned the popularity of Westerns on the small screen. This is in large part due to the success of Yellowstone, which premiered on Paramount+ in 2018. The fifth series of the American neo-Western will arrive at the end of November 2022.

Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana. The family’s sixth-generation patriarch is played by genuine movie star Kevin Costner. This is the actor’s first regular TV role, and he also produces the series.

Our list opened with a vampire show, but it’s not the only new season TV offering with fangs. While they’re both based on books, Interview With a Vampire is a drama — while Syfy series Reginald the Vampire is a comedy.

While we’re used to glamorous and mysterious vampires, Jacob Batalon’s Reginald is not that. The everyman, pizza-loving Reginald is new to the whole vampire thing, and he doesn’t exactly fit in. This new comedy also stars Mandela Van Peebles and Savannah Basley.

In a similar vein to Ramy, HBO sitcom Sort Of follows a millennial first-generation immigrant trying to make sense of the world. Co-creator Bilal Baig plays Sabi Mehboob, a non-binary Pakistani Canadian who works at an LGBTQ bookstore.

The series first aired in 2021, and season two premieres in December 2022. This diverse comedy has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and won a Peabody award in 2022. Plus, Baig is the first LGBTQ South Asian Muslim to lead a series on Canadian primetime TV.

Audiences have already fallen in love with the world of Yellowstone, so why not delve deeper into it? 1923 is a sequel to the neo-Western, and follows the Dutton family during the periods of Western Expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.

The series is set to premiere on Paramount+ in mid-December 2022. Much like Yellowstone, 1923 also features a full-on movie star in his first regular TV role. Harrison Ford will play patriarch Jacob Dutton alongside Helen Mirren as matriarch Cara.

Disney has had lots of success with TV series drawing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of their new additions is Secret Invasion, based on the comics of the same name. The upcoming show is due to air in spring 2023 and features some big names.

Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders reprise their roles as Nick Fury and Maria Hill. Joining them are Games of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, The Crown actress Olivia Coleman, and The Hobbit’s Martin Freeman.

Inspired by co-creator Max Thieriot’s early life in Northern California, Fire Country follows a young convict seeking redemption. In the new CBS drama, Thieriot plays Bode Donovan, who seeks a shorter sentence by joining a prison release firefighting program. Bode and his other inmates are teamed up with elite firefighters to handle blazing Californian wildfires.

Other actors starring in Fire Country include True Blood’s Kevin Alejandro, Riverdale’s Jordan Calloway, and Twilight’s Billy Burke. Series producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been at the helm of multiple CSI franchises.

Beloved sitcom Modern Family finished its 11-season run in 2020. However, one of its creators — Steven Levitan — is back with another comedy. Reboot is much more meta than its predecessor. It follows the cast of a 2000s sitcom family who comes back together for a reboot of their show.

Of course, they have to navigate a radically different media world to do so. This new Hulu series has a star-studded cast playing these dysfunctional colleagues. Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, and Johnny Knoxville all star in lead roles.

When supernatural drama Manifest was canceled by NBC after two seasons, Netflix swooped in to save it. Thank the TV gods that it did — because the show broke Netflix streaming records, and in 2021, became the third show on Netflix to stay in the Top 10 list for one hundred days.

In November 2022, fans can tune in to the show’s fourth and final season. The series follows the passengers and crew of an airplane that suddenly reappear after a long and mysterious disappearance.

And now for a spin-off — The Rookie is a police procedural that’s been airing on ABC since 2018. The show follows 45-year-old rookie John Nolan, played by Nathan Fillion, as he pursues a new career as a cop. Now, new series The Rookie: Feds covers similar terrain.

In the 2022 crime drama, Niecy Nash’s character Simone Clark appears as the oldest rookie in the FBI academy. Expect some crossovers from the original show, as well as new characters played by Frankie Faison and Kevin Zegers.

Some of the best TV shows are based on true stories that are stranger than fiction. Documentary fans may be familiar with the events in A Friend of the Family already, as they were covered in 2017 documentary Abducted in Plain Sight.

This Peacock drama miniseries looks at the 1970s kidnapping of Jan Broberg by family friend Robert Berchtold. Jake Lacy plays the menacing friend in question, alongside Anna Paquin and Colin Hanks as Jan’s parents. Plus, this serious is produced by Jan herself.

Octavia E. Butler’s 1979 novel Kindred is the inspiration for FX’s new miniseries. The eight-episode adaptation follows modern-day Dana James as she’s pulled between two time periods. Much like Butler’s original work, this version deals with the history of slavery in the US and the ways it still affects modern society.

It premieres on Hulu in December 2023. The cast of Kindred includes Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Ryan Kwanten, and Gayle Rankin, along with others. Director Darren Aronofsky is one of the show’s producers

In The Company You Keep, a very well-dressed Milo Ventimiglia stars as a con man who unexpectedly strikes up a relationship with an undercover CIA agent. This upcoming ABC series is based on the 2019 South Korean series My Fellow Citizens! and arrives on screens in 2023.

American actor Milo Ventimiglia already has plenty of fans from his time on Gilmore Girls, Heroes and This Is Us. For this new show, he’ll be joined by Prison Break’s William Fichtner and Sarah Wayne Callies.

Andrzej Sapkowski’s six novels and 15 short stories have reached audiences across the world. They’ve been translated into 37 languages and developed into two films, two comic book series, multiple video games, and two TV series.

Netflix’s adaptation is entering its third season in the summer of 2023. The Witcher’s third installment is based on the second book in the saga. It will see Henry Cavill return as Geralt of Rivia, as he tries to protect Freya Allen’s Ciri of Cintra.

The delightful Skylar Astin plays the titular character in CBS’s new legal drama So Help Me Todd. In the series, directionless private investigator Todd agrees to join his overbearing mom at her law firm.

Even better, Marcia Gay Harden plays said mom, a by-the-book defense attorney. The series follows the pull and push between the mom and son lead characters. While Todd prefers to bend the law when it suits him, mom Margaret prefers to follow the rules.

The title of HBO’s upcoming drama works on several levels. Firstly, it refers to Lily-Rose Depp’s character Jocelyn, an up-and-coming pop idol. Secondly, it refers to Abel (The Weeknd) Tesfaye’s role as Tedros, the leader of a modern-day self-help cult.

This six-episode series was co-created and co-written by The Weeknd. This marks the four-time Grammy award winner’s first major TV project. Also on the production team is Sam Levinson, creator of hit HBO drama Euphoria.

So far on our list, we’ve already seen that true crime stories make for great TV shows. 2022 has already seen Jessica Biel play Candy Montgomery in Hulu series Candy. But now, Elizabeth Olsen will take on the gruesome role in HBO’s crime drama Love and Death.

The American actress has already proved herself as a hit TV actress, starring as Wanda Maximoff in Disney’s WandaVision. This telling of the Texas-based murder also stars Jesse Plemons, Patrick Fugit, and Krysten Ritter.

We turn back to literature for our next entry. Dangerous Liaisons — or Les Liaisons dangereuses — was written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos way back in 1782. But hey, lovers turned rivals Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont still make great characters several hundred years later.

In the Starz adaptation, Alice Englert and Nicholas Denton play the lead roles. They’re joined by Paloma Faith, Lesley Manville, and Michael McElhatton. Ahead of its premiere, Dangerous Liaisons has already been green-lit for a second season.

As we’ve seen, TV is the place to be for movie stars. Tulsa King marks Sylvester Stallone’s first-ever regular TV role. The celebrated actor, director, and screenwriter plays Dwight “The General” Manfredi in this Paramount+ crime series.

After finishing his 25-year prison sentence, The General is sent to Tulsa to start a new criminal operation. Tulsa King was co-created by actor and filmmaker Taylor Sheridan, known for playing David Hale in Sons of Anarchy. To date, he’s received several Oscar nominations for his movie screenplays.

There’s nothing like a prequel to fill in some of the blanks in a fictional universe. The CW’s dark fantasy drama The Winchesters follows the story of how John Winchester and Mary Campbell first met while searching for their missing fathers.

It’s narrated by Supernatural lead character Dean Winchester, played by original actor Jensen Ackles. While fans of Supernatural will know how this story ends up, The Winchesters still includes plenty of demons, werewolves, and vampires. Plus, it’s set in the ’70s, so expect cool costumes.

Similarly, our next entry also tells more of a story that many audiences are already invested in. In this case, we’re following Pitch Perfect 2 antagonist Bumper as he tries to revive his music career in Berlin.

As well as Adam DeVine in the lead role, this Peacock spinoff also features some well-known faces. Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland plays Heidi, while The Good Place’s Jameela Jamil plays Gisela. German actor and musician Flula Borg will also reprise his role as Piëter Krämer.

Loki is the first Marvel Disney+ series to land a second season. The first six-episode installment aired in 2021, and season two will be released in summer 2023. Tom Hiddleston continues his role as the Asgardian God of Mischief wreaking havoc in various dimensions.

Also reprising their roles in season two are Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer and Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius. Additionally, actor and stuntman Ke Huy Quan will hop over to the MCU after starring in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Here we have yet another new adult animation show. In Grimsburg, Jon Hamm plays Marvin Flute, a cynical detective trying to solve crimes and get to know his family. The series is brought to us by newcomers Catlan McClelland and Matthew Schlissel, and executive produced by Jon Hamm and some seasoned comedy creatives.

This new Fox comedy is slated to arrive in 2023, and has already been renewed for a second season. So far, no other cast members or characters have been revealed.
